A word from the Director

Fred Matovu (PhD)

The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the varying levels of vulnerability countries, both developed and developing, face. It has tested the resilience of systems, both health and economy-wide systems to deal with and overcome shocks of global scale. As a Policy-research oriented Institution, PADRI, in collaboration with its partners is undertaking a range of research activities to analyze the effect of the policy and strategies the country undertook to respond to the Pandemic. Some of our current research is focusing on understanding the effect of COVID-19 on food security and other livelihood dimensions of the urban poor and the coping mechanism and strategies undertaken at the household, community, and national level.

Our policy analysis work is focusing on both, the short-term responses to the pandemic, and medium and long-term impacts and how to build resilience, especially among the poor and vulnerable communities. Through our research, we do make a contribution towards finding workable solutions which are relevant to the local context to address the development challenges of society. Our future research strategy is to strengthen our capacities, collaborations, and partnerships to address the many challenges and in some cases opportunities, which the Pandemic has brought to the fore of research and policy formulation.
