The main of this study is to determine women economic empowerment (WEE) outcomes from the Savings and Credit Cooperative Associations (SACCOs) and Community Savings and Credit Groups (CSCGs) Supported under the Project for Financial Inclusion in Rural Areas (PROFIRA), which was implemented between 2016-2019/2020 so as to better understand the short-term and long-term WEE outcomes and sustainable changes which have occurred as a result of PROFIRA. The study involves a survey of over 1500 women beneficiaries from SACCOs and CSCGs, Key informant interviews with implementers and managers of the SACCOs and SG chairpersons, and Focus Group Discussion with selected beneficiaries. Fieldwork is being conducted in 20 districts from all four main regions of the country. The findings will be used in strategic decision-making including policy directions to improve the effectiveness of the current project or future interventions on womens economic empowerment. The study was commissioned by CARE International in Uganda and funded by Bill & Mellinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) as Technical Assistance to the Government of Uganda under the Ministry of Finance Planning & Economic Development.
