Women’s social and economic empowerment is key to progress towards sustainable development.
This is because women’s incomes are spent directly on improving family health, nutrition,, and
education, which can lead to better jobs and integration into the formal economy. When women
are empowered in all areas (economically, politically, and in other respects like education and
health), they are equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their everyday
lives and to gain greater bargaining power.
